These are the current classes and educational opportunities held at the Columbia Bridge Club.
Winter 2018

Play and Learn Beginning Bridge
Pat Harrington’s Play and Learn Beginning Bridge classes will be held on Saturday mornings beginning at 9:30 AM and ending at noon. This class is for 14 weeks beginning on January 6th and ending on April 21st. There will be no class on January 27th as the club will be closed for the Future Life Master’s Sectional Tournament and on March 31st which is Easter weekend. The class is designed for the absolute beginner and for those who haven’t played in a long while and want to refresh their game and learn the new bidding popular in the 21st century. We begin with learning about trumps and then how to evaluate the strength of our hands and basic bidding and end with pre-emptive bids, strong 2 Club bids and artificial bids such as Stayman and Transfers.
This class will be taught by Mary Townhill and the fee is $140 for the entire 14-week session which includes all materials. A minimum of four students is needed to hold the class. Planning to Win
Pat Harrington’s Planning to Win classes will be held on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6:00 PM and ending at 8:30 PM. This class is for 11 weeks beginning on January 9th and ending on March 20th. This class is designed for the student who has just finished the Play and Learn Beginning Bridge class and for any student that wants to improve their “play of the hand” skills. Topics included are: Counting Winners and Entries in NT; Counting Losers and Drawing Trump; Promotion in Suits and NT; Using Length in Suits and NT; The Finesse; Dummy Points and Trumping in Dummy; Discarding A Loser: Practice with Finesses; Watch Out for the Opponents; Hold Up Plays and Protecting Your Honor. The first four lessons include a basic bidding review as well.
This class will be taught by Mary Townhill and the fee is $110 for the entire 11-week session which includes all materials. A minimum of eight students is needed to hold the class. Inspired Declarer Play
Inspired Declarer Play will be held on Friday mornings beginning at 9:30 AM and ending at noon. This class is for 9 weeks beginning on January 12th and ending on March 23rd. There will be no class on January 26th as the club will be closed for the Future Life Master’s Sectional Tournament and on February 9th due to the Hilton Head Regional Tournament. This class was put together by George Nichols and Mary Townhill and is designed for the intermediate player who wants to improve their play of the hand. Topics included are: 2 classes on Hold-Up plays; the Cross Ruff; the Finesse, Trump Management; Dummy Reversal; Entries; Trick-Taking Techniques/Suit Establishment and Developing Counting Skills/Card Reading.
This class will be taught by Mary Townhill and the fee is $90 for the entire 9-week session which includes all materials. A minimum of eight students is needed to hold the class. All Year Long

Supervised Play Wednesday Evenings
Join us Wednesday evenings for supervised play. There is a mini-lesson starting at 6:00, with play starting at 6:30 and going until 9:00. You don't need a partner, and there are always snacks. Just $5 for the mini-lesson and play, $3 to just play. Experienced mentors will be there to help answer bridge questions.
