8-Is-Enough Teams

8-Is-Enough Swiss teams games are scheduled three times a month. Here is how it works: Each player is assigned a point value. A player from Flight A counts as three points, Flight B as two points and Flight C as one point. No team can have more than eight points. This means that if two Flight A players want to play together, they have to play with two Flight C players. Three plus three plus one plus one equals eight. Sometimes we have four Flight B players, who team up. They each count as two points and two times four is eight - eight is enough! Remember, the team points do not have to equal eight. You may play with with any number of points, as long as your team does not exceed eight. Teams with all C players have often placed in this game.

We hold the 8-Is-Enough team game every month at the CBC on the first and second Thursdays and also on one Sunday. If you have any questions, please contact Mike Bitonti.

Hi-Lo Game

The Hi-Lo game is an open game held one Thursday afternoon per month. Although it is not required, our hope is that our A and B players will invite a C player (or vice versa!) to be their partner for the afternoon. Our purpose is to help the C players get to know the more experienced players at our Club and to realize that most players are there to help others, regardless of the level of play. This is a “low-key” game and the response has been very positive. Usually there are excellent refreshments served. Any volunteers to bring refreshments for this game are very welcome!

The Hi-Low Game dates for 2016 are: January 21, February 18, March 31, April 28, May 19, June 23, July 28, August 25, September 22, October 20, November 17, and December 15.

Individual Game

In an Individual game, you play 2 boards each with 12 different partners over the course of the evening to see who can score the best on the 24 boards played. This game is ideal for all skill levels, especially the novice and intermediate players who have an opportunity to play some boards with more experienced players and get a chance to learn from them. You don’t need a partner for this game, nor do you need to be an expert because all participants in this game are required to play the ACBL Standard Yellow Card. The only requirement is that you’re looking to have some fun while playing bridge and meeting some of the other CBC club members that you may not have met or played with before. If you have any questions, please contact Mike Bitonti.

Mentor-Mentee Game

The Mentor-Mentee game is a closed game held one Thursday afternoon per month. The mentors must be Life Masters and the mentees must have less than 100 masterpoints at the beginning of the year they are to be mentored. We play 18 boards, with 3 boards per round, allowing 30 minutes per round to allow time for discussion of the hands immediately following the play and before moving for the next round. There are 8 tables per session. The fee is $7.00 for the mentee. The mentors' and director’s fees have been subsidized by the South Carolina Bridge Foundation for the last two years. The mentees also sign up to provide refreshments. We are always looking for subs for the mentors and mentees. If you are not currently on the sub list or are not sure if you are, please contact Mary Townhill.

The Mentor-Mentee Game dates for 2016 are: February 4, March 10, April 21, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 4, September 1, October 13, November 10, and December 8.

Supervised Play

Join us Wednesday evenings for Supervised Play. There is a mini-lesson starting at 6:00, with play starting at 6:30 and going until 9:00. You don't need a partner, and there are always snacks. Just $5 for the mini-lesson and play, or $3 to just play. Experienced mentors will be there to help answer bridge questions. Unfortunately, no masterpoints can be awarded for this game.
